Sotheby's sold a 6.01-carat fancy vivid blue and pink diamond ring for $10.1 million at a Hong Kong auction yesterday, achieving a new world record price-per-carat for any fancy vivid blue diamond sold at auction
The buyer remained anonymous. The hammer price was far higher than the $2.4 to $2.9 million the ring was expected to sell for.
Another lot, a 4.19-carat fancy orange diamond and diamond ring, was sold to a private Asian buyer for $2.9 million. It set a new world record for the highest price paid for any fancy vivid orange diamond sold at auction, Sotheby's said.
In total, the sale brought in $65 million, a lower figure than the estimated $85 to $110 million.
